How to choose winery management software

Choosing a management software is about organizing part of the work and data of the domain for several years. This guide provides a common framework for preparing appointments, comparing offers and conducting a trial on real-life situations.

The eight points to check

The comparison starts with the domain-specific operations, then covers the data, the conditions of use and the quality of the service. The same criteria must be applied to each solution.

1. Export and retrieve data

   Check the scope of the returned data and documents, the formats offered, maintaining the links between the files, and the time and cost of a return.

2. Checking security measures

   Collect accurate information on hosting, accounts, double authentication, backups, media access and incident management.

3. Framework personal data

   Ask for the subcontract, the list of relevant providers, the location of the processing and the conditions for restitution or deletion.

4. Check regulatory coverage

   For the phytosanitary registry, electronic billing or DRM, distinguish between available functions, planned developments and remaining steps outside the software.

5. Compare the cost over three years

   Add subscription, additional users and modules, data recovery, training, support and possible exit costs.

6. Read the exit conditions

   Increase the duration of the appointment, renewal, notice, access after termination and the calendar for the return and subsequent deletion of the data.

7. Evaluate the support and editor

   Compare the schedules, channels, response times and the intended device during harvests. Also check the organization and continuity of the service.

8. Organize a representative test

   Prepare some scenarios from a sample of your data, with the people who will use the software and under the conditions of domain connection.
